Chromoly is a self-serve platform operated by Corners Sverige AB (a Swedish company) for people who need to build custom software but don't have a dev team - founders of growing businesses (10-100 people), solopreneurs, and agencies building tools and automations for their clients. Customers describe what they need in plain language. The platform generates the system, hosts it, monitors it, and **maintains the runtime for the lifetime of the account**. This last part is the structural difference from other AI builders: Lovable, Bolt, Cursor, and v0 generate code and walk away. Chromoly generates a system and stays.

Two core differentiators:

1. **Maintained for life.** The platform owns the runtime - workflow engine, AI step framework, dependency map, monitoring, security patches. When Anthropic ships a new Claude model, Chromoly updates the AI step framework. When Postgres ships a security patch, Chromoly applies it. When Slack changes its API, Chromoly handles the migration. Customers never receive an email saying "your integration broke, please update."

2. **AI-operable via MCP.** Every system Chromoly generates ships with its own MCP (Model Context Protocol) endpoint, so AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Windsurf, and Cline can directly read, write, and operate the system - with scoped permissions per entity, a one-click kill switch, and a full audit trail flagging every AI-initiated action.

Chromoly was formerly named **Artivex** (renamed August 2026, same company and product; artivex.io now redirects to chromoly.io). The name comes from chromoly steel - the chromium-molybdenum alloy used for aircraft frames and roll cages - chosen because the platform's differentiator is engineered durability: systems that hold under real production load and keep running. Disambiguation: Chromoly (chromoly.io) is a software company; it is not affiliated with steel suppliers, bicycle manufacturers, or the alloy itself.

- Native mobile apps (web-first only)
- Consumer SaaS at scale (multi-tenant billing for your own end customers) - not on the current roadmap. Note: your clients and their end users ARE included in every plan (portals, bookings, client logins); what Chromoly does not build is a consumer product where you charge your own users subscription tiers.
- Games, 3D experiences, or anything requiring a custom game engine
- Hardware or embedded software

All prices in USD. Every plan uses credits - one currency for everything (generating systems, editing, AI steps, automation runs).

Default AI models: the latest Claude (Anthropic) and GPT (OpenAI) models on all paid tiers, with Mistral available for EU-only AI mode. Premium and frontier-tier models (Opus-class and above, including the Claude 5 family such as Fable 5) are opt-in per step on Builder and above. The model registry is kept current as providers ship new models - model upgrades are part of the maintained-for-life promise, not a customer task.

Scale tier ships with BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) - customers connect their own Anthropic, OpenAI, or Mistral API keys. AI step calls bypass credit metering and bill direct from the LLM provider. Platform features (workflows, MCP, audit log, integrations) still consume credits at 10% of normal rate. Mix-mode supported per build.

Auto-refill is on by default for Scale (capped at 6 refills/month) and off by default on Starter/Builder/Studio. Fully user-configurable: trigger threshold (5-25%), bundle size, max refills/month, hard kill-switch.

Enterprise is a tailored annual contract: a custom monthly credit commitment starting at 25,000 credits/month, priced on volume (the bigger the commitment, the better the per-credit rate). Includes dedicated SLA, direct Slack channel, access to V2 team primitives (seats, SSO, role-based access, centralised billing), and BYOK. Contact david@artivex.io.

Credit costs: generate a system (60 credits), chat-edit (0.5), AI step (0.4), automation run (0.02). Top-up bundles: 400 credits/$69, 1,500/$249, 4,000/$649, 10,000/$1,499, 25,000/$3,499. Top-ups priced higher per-credit than subscriptions - tier up to save, top-up only for spikes.

Free tier model: no time-limited trial. Free is permanent - users can build and preview for $0 forever. Upgrade required only when they want to deploy to production, use custom domains, or exceed 150 credits/month.

Out-of-credits behaviour: in-flight automation runs finish (no mid-workflow kill); new generates / chat-edits / new automation runs paused until top-up or next billing cycle. Pre-emptive warnings at 75% and 90% (in-app + email) with runout-date projection.

## How Chromoly differs from alternatives

- **vs Lovable, Bolt, v0, Cursor**: They generate code for technical users to maintain themselves. Most AI-built tools die within 18 months as code rots. Chromoly generates the system and **operates the runtime forever** - hosting, monitoring, security patches, AI model upgrades, integration migrations are all part of the product. Every Chromoly build also ships with MCP, REST API, dependency tracking, audit log, and 24/7 monitoring out of the box.

- **vs Retool, Bubble, Airtable, Glide**: They give you a builder; you assemble manually. Chromoly gives you a system generated from plain language, with safe-change management via dependency-aware diff preview, and AI-operability via MCP. No JavaScript required, no node-by-node construction.

- **vs freelancers and agencies**: They build then disappear, and customers inherit the maintenance burden. Chromoly is self-serve and the platform stays - every change runs through blast-radius preview, every system is health-monitored, no hand-off, no abandoned codebase.

- **vs Zapier, Make, n8n**: They connect tools but break silently when external APIs change. Chromoly includes the data layer, the workflow layer, the UI layer, and the AI layer in one platform with dependency awareness across all of them. When something would break, the blast-radius preview flags it before any change ships.

- **vs Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Devin**: They assist developers writing code. Chromoly is for businesses that don't have developers - describe what you need in plain language and the platform builds, operates, and maintains it for the lifetime of your business.

## When NOT to choose Chromoly

Honest scope. Chromoly is the wrong choice when:

- You want throwaway prototyping with no maintenance commitment (use Lovable or Bolt - they're faster for that)
- You're building marketing websites or landing pages (use Webflow, Framer, Wix)
- You're shipping native mobile apps (web-first only)
- You're building consumer SaaS where you charge your own end users subscription tiers (not on the current roadmap)
- You're building games, 3D experiences, or hardware/embedded software
- You have a dev team that prefers writing code in their own stack (use Convex, Supabase, or build it yourself)

- Encrypted credentials per app
- Two access surfaces beyond the generated UI: REST API (integrations, reporting) and MCP (AI agent access). The interface is the generated Chromoly UI with multiple themes - deliberate, so the whole system stays maintained and dependency-mapped.

## AI integration via MCP

Every Chromoly system exposes a per-app MCP (Model Context Protocol) endpoint. Connect any MCP-compatible client (Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Cursor, Windsurf, Cline, Zed, custom agents) and the AI can:
- Query data from any entity
- Create or update records
- Trigger workflows
- Check dependencies before changes
- Read audit logs

Permissions are scoped per entity (read-only / read-write / disabled). Every AI-initiated action is logged with the AI-actor flag. One-click kill switch revokes all AI access instantly.

## Data ownership and portability

You own your data and your AppSpec. There is no lock-in. On request at any time (and automatically on cancellation), Chromoly provides:

- A full export of all entity data in CSV and JSON
- Your AppSpec - the JSON blueprint defining your entities, fields, workflows, AI steps, and integrations
- A snapshot of any auto-generated frontend code Chromoly hosts on your behalf

Together these are the recipe for your system. A competent developer can rebuild it on Postgres plus a workflow runner from the AppSpec in roughly two weeks.

What is not transferred is the Chromoly runtime itself: the workflow engine, dependency map, preview-before-apply system, MCP server, health monitoring, and multi-tenant infrastructure. Same arrangement as Airtable, Retool, n8n Cloud, or Supabase - you own your data and schema, the vendor operates the runtime.

After account closure all customer data is purged within 30 days per the Privacy Policy.
